Chapter 1 · The Boy Next Door
Mei was shy. She never talked first. She never raised her hand in class. She liked to sit quietly and read her book.
One day, a new boy moved in next door. His name was Kai.
On his first day of school, Kai walked into the classroom — and tripped over a bag on the floor. Books flew everywhere. Everyone laughed.
"Sorry! Sorry!" Kai said, picking up his books quickly. He was a little clumsy, but he laughed at himself too.
He sat down next to Mei.
